U.S. Eases Restrictions on Mexican Airlines

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has eased restrictions on Mexican airlines launching new routes to the United States from Mexico City and Felipe Ángeles international airports. The decision allows Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva Aerobus to expand their U.S. networks, although new services will remain subject to regulatory approval.
In October 2025, the DOT revoked approvals for 13 routes amid a dispute over slot allocation, capacity reductions and the relocation of cargo operations. Despite the decision following a preliminary agreement in May 2026, some measures will remain in place as the U.S. monitors Mexico’s implementation of its commitments.
